Responsibilities & Qualifications

Position Overview

 

The Scrum Master (SM) is trained in Scaled Agile Framework (Safe) and is responsible for organizing, facilitating and motivating agile project teams in the successful delivery of software as a service (SaaS) agile development projects. The role will drive the teams towards overall organizational, technical and product vision by aligning sprint deliverables with internal practices, policies and procedures by establishing processes to achieve a high level of performance and quality in the agile project deliveries. The Scrum Master will assist the agile scrum teams in continuously improving their capabilities and development practices and track metrics to provide to management to guide decisions and improvements to the secure application development lifecycle and related development practices.

 

 

In this role you will:

 

The Scrum Master (SM) is a vital member of one or more scrum teams and performs several different roles for each team with accountability for high performance delivery of each software engineering team in a fast-paced environment. The Scrum Master facilitates the agile ceremonies and assists the team in ensuring the sprint pre-requisites, milestones and delivery steps are met along the way ensuring quality software is delivered by the team according to the specifications defined and in adherence to the processes and procedures of the secure application lifecycle development processes in line with the technical and business objectives and overall organizational strategy.

  • Manage the agile/scrum process with the coordination of one or more scrum teams within the SaFE Agile framework
  • Acts in a consultative and collaborative role to help implement the appropriate processes and tools in coordination with the scrum team(s) to support SaFE agile development practices.
  • Support Development Leads and Product Owners while working closely with the team to define and refine product backlogs and related requirements.
  • Facilitate Program Increment (PI) planning, sprint level planning, tracking and metrics and assist with building software release plans.
  • Identify risks and blockers with the scrum team in planning sections and help to mitigate items to reach successful completion of sprint and PI objectives.
  • Maintain, monitor and improve agile metrics for each scrum team (Burndown, velocity, etc.)
  • Support epic and story estimation by guiding the teams in implementing normalized estimation processes and techniques (i.e. planning poker)
  • Monitors, manages and escalates impediments, risks and dependencies
  • Coordinates with other Scrum Masters, Release Engineers, Development Leads and Product Owners in Scrum-of-Scrums ceremonies throughout each sprint
  • Ensures teams operate under portfolio guidance and architectural direction and assists with cross team coordination
  • Helps drive continuous improvement by identifying areas of improvement and coaching agile teams.

  • Scrum Master (CSM/PMI – ACP/CSP)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the role of Scrum Master within an Agile/Scrum framework
  • Knowledge of other agile approaches a plus: Kanban, etc.
  • Knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies essential
  • Understanding of traditional project management principles and practices
  • Solid understanding of secure software development life cycle models as well as agile release processes including Agile (Scrum)
  • Hands-on experience with Atlassian products – Jira and Confluence
  • Solid understanding of servant leadership principles including but not limited to facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, team empowerment and transparency.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating and team building
  • Understanding of agile techniques including: user stories, grooming, TDD, continuous integration, continuous testing, and other quality assurance principles.
  • Motivated self-starter with strong logical and analytical skills in addition to strong creative problem-solving skills.
  • Experience interacting with both business and IT stakeholders
  • Expertise in agile metrics, team maturity and fluency levels and ability to take a team from crawl, to walk to run fluency levels.
  • Technical knowledge a plus

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • B.S. or higher in business/project management/computer science/technology field preferred or equivalent industry experience
  • Excellent customer-service orientation
  • Effective delegation of tasks and follow-up
  • Knowledgeable of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies
  • Capable of meeting deadlines and focuses on results and value creation
  • Capable of professionally resolving team issues/conflicts
  • Works well with customers and vendors, knows when and how hard to push to maintain a stable and reliable environment
  • Self-motivated and directed
  • Capable of prioritizing and execution of tasks in a high-pressure environment
